Technology Pioneer Shankar Venkataraman Joins Marketo as Chief Scientist
SAN MATEO, Calif., April 25, 2016 -- Marketo, Inc. (NASDAQ: MKTO), the leading provider of engagement marketing software and solutions, today announced the appointment of Shankar Venkataraman as chief scientist. Venkataraman joins Marketo from IBM where he was chief technology officer for the IBM Analytics Platform. At Marketo, Venkataraman will be responsible for designing and building the company's next generation platform, applications, and analytics capabilities.
Venkataraman brings 25 years of experience designing and managing data platforms, applications, and analytics for large-scale public and high-growth private companies. He is a distinguished technology leader and pioneer of the streaming database architecture. As chief scientist, he will set the future vision for the company's platform architecture and marketing analytics, and advise customers on how to reach their customers effectively at scale.

While at IBM, Venkataraman led the company's initiatives on Hadoop, Spark, and large-scale analytics. Prior to IBM, he built a real-time streaming and dashboarding product, acquired by Cognos in 2006. Additionally, Venkataraman led the engineering team for the operational CRM product at Epiphany, where he worked with Fernandez. He also held engineering roles at Outride, Remedy Corporation, Yodlee, and Informix.

Venkataraman holds an MBA from the HaaS School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India.
