Summary

This member of Marketo’s Operations team will be responsible for maintaining the Test and Hosted Production systems for a fast growing e-Marketing SaaS company. As the primary technical bridge between Engineering and the production environment this position is a key force in ensuring a secure, robust and available solution.  This person should be energetic, bright and, focused on team dynamics and results.

The candidate will work with Redhat Enterprise services primarily utilizing the LAMP and XAMP stack in a high availability distributed environment.

General Responsibilities

The Systems Administrator will define the standard operating systems configurations (including versions, packages and patch levels), management tools, scripts, and operating processes.  They will also participate in the hands on management of the production systems, fault resolution, capacity planning and root cause analysis.  They will be instrumental in building a world-class systems infrastructure that is constantly evolving and expanding.

They will help deploy and manage the initial validation stage systems and the full production environment to include new releases, patches and automation.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Establish and test standard systems configurations
  • Establish operations policies and procedures for production (with the DBA and Engineering teams)
  • Assist in the selection of management software for log management, release distribution and monitoring
  • Performance analysis of systems
  • Participate in capacity planning
  • Root cause determination for faults
  • Script and procedure development

Skills:

Compulsory skills

This position requires significant experience in the following:

  • Clustered Unix / Linux environments
  • LAMP Servers in a HA production environment  (5-8 years)
  • Implementing and supporting our  Management tools and scripts
  • Server scripting (PHP, Perl, awk etc)

The successful candidate will have experience in several of the following areas:

  • Experience in large Web/DB projects
  • MySQL 5.0 scripting and maintenance
  • Systems and infrastructure security
  • High availability system design/support – ideally in a SaaS or commodity website environment (Google, Yahoo!, MSN, SalesForce,etc)
  • Ultra high volume messaging
  • Management infrastructure tools (Nagios, Cacti, Tivoli, OpenView, Splunk etc)

Experience in the following areas will be advantageous but not necessary:

  • Deployment and distribution automation tools (YUM, Puppet, RPM, etc)
  • Consumer software/website database design
  • Strongmail Mail systems
  • Salesforce’s Force.com Appexchange platform
  • Virtual systems build and management utilizing VMWare, Xen or an equivalent

Marketo is a startup environment. The Systems Administrator will be part of the team designing and specifying Marketo’s product. Flexibility and ability to work as part of a multi skilled team are essential.

Educational requirements:

MS/BS degree in Computing Sciences or equivalent is preferred. Credit will be given for candidates who do not have relevant degrees but can demonstrate equivalent work experience.
